-Lebanon: Lebanon's government has steeped down as Prime Minister Hassan Diab blamed endemic corruption for a devastating explosion last week that tore through the capital. President Michel Aoun accepted Diab's resignation on Monday and asked the government to stay on in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed.
(Note: The massive explosion at Beirut's port killed some 200 people and wounded 6,000 others according to the latest tally.

-Belarus: Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has won as president with 80 % of the vote according to preliminary results cited by the Central Election Commission. Svetlana Tikhanouskaya ( a 37-year old former English teacher ) who emerged as Lukashenko's chief opponent won 9.9% of the vote, the other candidates received less than 2% of the vote. Svetlana Tikhanouskaya rejected the results. She said she did not trust the official figures, insisting "the majority is with us."
Mass protests erupted in cities across the country, including the capital Minsk. after the election results showed. "About 60,000 people is gathering in support of Svetlana Tikhanouskaya so in a sense that doesn't really add up with the numbers that have now seen in the election" said reporters from the city.
(Note: Alexander Lukashenko has served as President of Belarus since 20 July 1994.)

-Morocco: On Saturday reported 1,345 new COVID-19 cases, the biggest single day increase. So far, the number of coronavirus infections in the country reaches 33,237 and at least 480 people have died due to this infection. The Moroccan government has extended the state of medical emergency for another month until Sep 10.
