To understand the similarity and difference between democracy and republic, first, let's talk about government. What is government? A government is the 'group of people' governing an organized community, generally a state or a country. Where do that 'group of people' come from? Well, it depends on what kind of methods the country follows to select that 'group of people'. In an absolute monarchy, the monarch (usually king or queen) holds supreme autocratic authority. He/She become head of the state for a lifetime. After he/she dies, the throne passes to their offspring and the cycle continues. In this way, the 'group of people' is formed. However, in democracy, people have the authority to choose the 'group of people'. They choose from their own population through votes, discussion or any other methods. So, what is democracy?  1. Hyperion is the world's tallest known living tree.       Hyperion is known as the world's tallest known living tree. It belongs to the species Sequoia sempervirens ( Common name: Coast Redwood ). This species includes the tallest living trees on Earth.  ASIA - Coronavirus Total Cases: Cross 12.3 million Total Deaths: At least 220K -China  [Source: news.au]      China rolls out digital yuan in Shenzai and is the first step in the introduction of the digital yuan. The government distributed 200 yuan each to 50,000 residents in a lottery in the largest test so far of the new currency. Peking University Digital Finance Research Centre senior researcher Xu Yuan  thinks history will look back on the introduction of the digital yuan as the defining feature of 2020 alongside the novel coronavirus.      Local media reports the new digital currency works in a similar way to existing digital wallets like Alipay and WeChat Pay ( or like Apple Pay or Google Pay ). ASIA - Coronavirus Total Cases: Cross 12 million Total Deaths: At least 219K -Pakistan  [Source: Aljazeera]      Pakistan has banned Chinese social media app Tiktok for failing to filter out 'immoral and indecent' content, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said in a statement. "Keeping in view the complaints and nature of the content being consistently posted on Tiktok, PTA issued a final notice to the application", the statement said. "However, the application failed to fully comply with the instructions. Therefore, directions were issued for blocking of Tiktok application in the country."      The decision was taken after Prime Minister Imran Khan took a keen interest in the issue and has directed the telecommunication authorities to make all efforts to block content regarded vulgar in the conservative country.   1. Brazil is World's Largest Coffee Producer      Brazil is the world largest producer of coffee, a position the country has held for the last 150 years. Coffee plantations are mainly located in the southeastern states: Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Parana where the environment and climate provide ideal growing conditions.      The crop first arrived in Brazil in the 18th century and the country had become the dominant producer by the 1840s.      The first coffee bush in Brazil was planted by Franciso de Melo Pelheta in the state Para in 1727. If companies do not comply with the new rules, they face major fines. The rules, which were pushed through Parliament by the Justice and Development Party of Prime Minister Recep Toyyip Erdogan, threaten major social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter having over a million Turkey daily users. While at first glance the regulations appear bureaucratic, critics say that in practice they encroach upon company rights and freedom of speech.       Yaman Akdeniz, who teaches law at Istanbul's Bilgi University, told that regulations would have major consequences.
